No. Your browser reads the file locally, decodes it with WebCodecs (or our packaged MP3 encoder) and re-encodes it in the same tab. This tool has no server endpoint at all, so there is nowhere for an upload to go even if a request were forged.

Is there a cost, a sign-up or a watermark?

None of the three. Conversions never touch your credits, and the output is a normal audio file with no added audio, tags or watermark.

Why is a format greyed out?

That format needs an encoder your browser does not provide. We check before you start, so you get a disabled button instead of a file that will not play. Chrome and Edge have the widest support; the bundled MP3 encoder covers MP3 on every browser.

Will converting to WAV or FLAC improve the quality?

No. Lossless formats preserve exactly what the input contained, so a 128 kbps MP3 turned into FLAC keeps its 128 kbps quality and only gets bigger. Use WAV or FLAC when the source is already lossless, or when a downstream tool needs uncompressed audio.
